Making a Pleasurable Point
By Peggy Townsend
Taken from Peggy Townsend's "Name Dropping" column on December 11, 2001

Most people think of Pleasure Point as that neighborhood with the weird skinny houses and great surf.

Now there's another way to think about Pleasure Point: as home to an award-winning bed-and-breakfast inn.

The Pleasure Point Inn was recently honored as the "B&B/Inn with the Best Seaside View" by Arrington's Bed and Breakfast Journal.

The voting was done by guests of inns across the country.

The bed-and-breakfast on East Cliff Drive was bought two years ago by CLAIRE DYER and TOM ERTEL, who split their time between homes in Santa Cruz and Indiana where Tom works.

They immediately went to work, turning the country-style inn into an upscale, more modern-style bed and breakfast with hardwood floors, metal sculpture and photographs by local BOB BARBOUR.

A rooftop deck overlooks the ocean, and three of the inn's four rooms have ocean views.

"We greatly appreciate this honor," Claire said of the award.

If you want to check out the bed and breakfast on your own, there are a variety of winter specials available that take $33 to $66 off the price of your room.

If you want a special treat, you can take a "Weekday Escapes," which includes on-site massages, wine-tasting at local wineries, reservations for a romantic dinner and an oceanview room with Jacuzzi tub, fireplace and a private patio overlooking the bay. The package is $656 until Jan. 1 and $598 after that. Call 469-6161.

The inn is managed by TOM PERRY.
