PLEASURE POINT INN CELEBRATES GRAND REOPENING

The Pleasure Point Inn, a local bed-and-breakfast, reopened Saturday after closing 10 months for extensive renovations.

The remodeling transformed the former "vintage '70s beach house" into a "modern, upscale bed-and-breakfast," said co-owner Claire Dyer.

Located at the corner of 37th Avenue and East Cliff Drive, the new inn features four bedroom suites, a large central living room and dining area, several small patios and a large, open deck with an eight-person Jacuzzi. It also boasts floors of white oak hardwood and heated tile.

"The only thing that we've kept is the name and this portal" said Dyer, pointing to a round glass window in the living room.

Dyer and her partner, Tom Ertel, have owned the inn since 1999. The two previously ran vacation rental properties in Santa Cruz. Opening a bed-and-breakfast was "just a natural extension of that process," said Dyer.

The Pleasure Point Inn is a departure from other local bed-and-breakfasts, typically set in Victorian houses, said Mary Paoli Sakai, the inn's spokeswoman.

"It breaks the rules," she said. "It's bold, because it stepped outside that antique-y idea of a B and B."
